Through the last 6 years of making hardtails and frames for Triumph and BSA motorcycles, David Bird's reputation as a world-class fabricator has become widespread. Just finished up is this new weld-on hardtail for Yamaha xs650 motorcycles. This innovative design allows for you to leave your stock motor mounts in place, not having to cut and sleeve your vertical seat post tube and have the possibility of misaligning your frame.

No corners have been cut, these Yamaha xs650 hardtails are made of 1-1/8" diameter .120 wall DOM tubing so it matches up beautifully to your stock front frame section. The 3/8" thick axle plates feature a 3/16" doubler plate and a .800" axle slot so your stock rear wheel, axle, and axle adjusters will be a perfect fit. Beautiful TIG welds, MIG welded axle plates. The hardtail pictured is a 4" stretch, 2" drop, looped style.

This hardtail will fit all Yamaha XS650 and TX650 models built between 1974 and 1985.

You can view install instructions for these Yamaha XS650 hardtails to see how they fit up to a stock frame.

Not only are these the highest quality xs650 hardtails available, they are made to your specs with your choice of stretch and drop to give your bobber or chopper the exact look you want.

These are available in 0" (stock), 2", 4", and 6" stretch. You can also choose 0", 1", 2", 3" or 4" of drop.

For more information and frequently asked questions about our custom frames and hardtails, please check out the Frame FAQ.

These are custom made-to-order and currently take approximately 8-12 weeks to complete and ship. You will be charged the shipping at the time of purchase, and when your frame ships we will email over your tracking info.

NOTE TO AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMERS: If you are in Australia be sure to read the frame FAQ, due to your country's customs laws all frames ship freight and there will be additional charges in addition to the shipping shown during checkout.

2" stretch, 3" drop Review by SF
Clean welds, clean bends, looks good. Took about 3 hours to get it to fit in the jig, had to remove about .4" from the left upper before it would even think about lining up. I assume it just slipped from their jig during assembly. Now that it's on their it looks like it was meant to be! (Posted on 9/9/2015)

I decided to use my already stripped down 1969 xs 650 frame rather than my parts bike. Turns out the instructions are for the later model frames. Still made it work with a little more fabrication. Gonna order another soon! (Posted on 5/10/2013)

I ordered this back... Review by Kyle Kostric
I ordered this back when it first became available for my 81' XS650. It showed up super quick. The fitment was spot on and gave me the exact look I was going for with a 4" drop and 0" stretch. When I finished the bike I had a friend love it so much that he drove from Texas to Arizona to buy it from me. His exact words were, "You just don't see anything like this around". I was extremely happy with how it turned out and received numerous compliments on it. If I end up doing another XS650 I'll definitely be ordering this again. (Posted on 6/23/2014)

Best hard tail I... Review by Bryn Tiplady
Best hard tail I have seen. I am a licenced motorcycle and car mechanic seen a lot of shit hard tails out there.By far in my eyes is the best hardtail on the market. Welds are flawless. Showed a friend who
is a licensed welder, he said he does a really nice job. That he is not charging enough for that hard tail. When I had told him how much they are. You can not go wrong with this hard tail. Total professional , and the boys a lowbrow are total professionals no hacks here. (Posted on 12/27/2012)
