Through the last 6 years of making hardtails and frames for Triumph and BSA motorcycles, David Bird's reputation as a world-class fabricator has become widespread. Just finished up is this new weld-on hardtail for Yamaha xs650 motorcycles. This innovative design allows for you to leave your stock motor mounts in place, not having to cut and sleeve your vertical seat post tube and have the possibility of misaligning your frame.
No corners have been cut, these Yamaha xs650 hardtails are made of 1-1/8" diameter .120 wall DOM tubing so it matches up beautifully to your stock front frame section. The 3/8" thick axle plates feature a 3/16" doubler plate and a .800" axle slot so your stock rear wheel, axle, and axle adjusters will be a perfect fit. Beautiful TIG welds, MIG welded axle plates. The hardtail pictured is a 4" stretch, 2" drop, straight style.
This hardtail will fit all Yamaha XS650 and TX650 models built between 1974 and 1985.
You can view install instructions for these Yamaha XS650 hardtails to see how they fit up to a stock frame.

Pros - Fit was far better than expected! Although I didn't do any strech on mine the 3 inch drop was accurate. I also liked the looptails style. Have reccomended the to numerous people! Cons - I would have liked to seen the drop outs tig welded instead of mig welded. Highly reccommend this product. I couldn't have done this for the money it cost. It fit so well that I had the old section cut off and the new hardtail welded on by the end of the day. Approx 5 which included stringing it up an continual measurement. |
