      Motorcycle Frame Fabrication Parts FAQ

What is a coped bung and when do I need one?
A coped bung has a saddle-cut profile machined into the base so it sits flush against round tubing. This is the correct bung for any mount welding directly onto a frame tube, where a flat-bottomed bung would leave gaps and create a weak weld. Coped bungs are available in multiple thread sizes and lengths to match the mount requirement.
What is the difference between a tophat blind bung and a standard threaded bung?
A standard threaded bung is a cylinder that welds into a drilled hole and provides a thread point from inside the tube or panel. A tophat blind bung has a flanged lip that sits on the outside surface, making it suitable for flat panels and sheet metal where drilling through is not an option or a recessed clean finish is the goal.
Are Lowbrow Customs bungs and tabs made in the USA?
Yes. All Lowbrow Customs bungs and tabs are made in Ohio from 100% US steel. They are available in packs of 4 through 120-piece assortments depending on the scope of the project.
Do I need special tooling to install weld-on frame fabrication parts?
Standard MIG or TIG welding equipment covers most bung and tab installations. Coped bungs require a hole saw or step drill to size the receiver hole before welding. A bolt and thread gauge is useful for confirming thread spec on bungs before drilling. The Lowbrow Customs bolt and thread gauge covers standard thread sizes across all common bung profiles.
