Lowbrow Customs Fuel Reserve Bottles and Carriers FAQ
Is it legal to carry a reserve fuel bottle on the outside of my motorcycle?
Laws can vary significantly by state or region, so it's always best to check your local regulations. The most critical aspect is to ensure the bottle is mounted securely, away from extreme heat sources like the engine and exhaust, and that the cap is sealed tightly to prevent any leaks.
Will the internal lacquer coating be affected by modern ethanol-blended fuels (E10, E15) or other additives over time?
The bottle is specifically designed for fuel, and the liner is resistant to common pump gas, including those containing ethanol. However, for best results and to ensure fuel quality, we don't recommend extremely long-term fuel storage (many months) in the bottle.
Will engine heat or direct sunlight cause pressure to build up in the bottle? What is the safest mounting location?
Yes, extreme heat can cause fuel to expand and pressure to build inside the bottle. It's best to mount it in a location with good airflow, away from the engine cylinders and exhaust pipes. The front forks or a sissy bar are common choices that help minimize direct heat exposure.
