Motorcycle Tachometers
Types of Motorcycle Tachometers
Motorcycle Tachometer offer precise measurements of rotational speed
Aftermarket motorcycle tachometers are a simple item to install and they can provide a good amount of information about the performance of your motorcycle.
There are the two styles of motorcycle tachometers that you will find on a variety of bikes.
Manual drive motorcycle tachometers
Manual drive motorcycle tachometers have a cable which drives the tachometer and a two-wire connection for lighting the gauge face so it can be seen at night time. Sometimes referred to as a motorcycle rev counter, manual motorcycle rpm RPM gauges display the RPM of the engine by using a cable to turn a series of gears that display the RPM rate of the engine.
Electronic tachometer
An electronic tachometer uses the engines spark production to calculate the RPMs of the engine. Electronic motorcycle tachometers typically have a 4-wire connection. A ground wire, a power wire for the tachometer, a signal wire that connects to the coil, and the lighting power wire.
Electronic tachometers are very sensitive, so when you install an electronic motorcycle tachometer, it is important to make sure you have very good connections. We would recommend using soldered connections as opposed to using quick connectors. This will help you avoid issues like a fluctuating tachometer needle.
