This classic chopper gas tank is a 2.2 gallon Axed tank. It has a bit of a bulbous appearance and sits up pretty high on your frame's backbone. Axed tanks came about in the 1970's, styled after custom gas tanks some motorcycle enthusiasts made for their Harley-Davidson choppers by cutting up stock H-D split gas tanks and welding the halves together, end up with a similar shape to the Axed Tank. Axed tanks are sometimes called an Alien Gas Tank because they resemble an alien head, especially this dual-cap version (the caps are the eyes)! This is the dual-cap version and accepts any cam-style Harley-Davidson gas cap and will accept either a 3/8" NPT or 1/4" NPT petcock. The tunnel, at deepest, is 3.5" deep. The mounting tabs are undrilled, allowing you to drill and mount your tank exactly how you want it. These are a very nice quality tank, perfect for your next home built chopper project.

Pair this tank with a set of Lowbrow Customs Gas Tank Adapter Brackets and this custom gas tank will bolt on 1986 - 2003 Harley-Davidson Sportsters with no fabrication required.

Note: It is highly recommended to fit your gas tank to your bike before painting. Check for clearance or mounting issues as different combinations of triple trees, risers, and handlebars may cause clearance issues when turning. Tanks are pressure tested but it is highly recommended that you or your painter pressure test it again before painting; it's cheap insurance!

What petcocks will fit the right side of this tank with a 90 out?
    A:
The right side accepts a 3/8 NPT valve for that you could use 002705
    002386
    or 003556
If you are not familiar with NPT that is a tapered thread that will form a seal when tightened so basically when you are installing the valve it will not go all the way to the end of the threads.
Do not over-tighten the valve or it may snap off I have had customers that are not familiar with NPT do just that as they saw there were plenty of threads left and assumed they could continue to tighten it all of the way in. Additionally I am often asked if teflon tape should be used and the white tape that is for plumbing will quickly deteriorate when exposed to gasoline . There is some tape available that is rated for gas it will say so on the roll. The threads should seal without any tape but if you want to use some just do not use the white stuff .
