Mounting your license plate can often be a bit of a chore. The law states that the license plate must be securely fastened to prevent swinging; displayed horizontally or vertically with letters and numbers facing outward from the vehicle. It’s also important to note that the license plate has to have illumination so it can be read when it is dark outside. 

Types of Motorcycle License Plate Brackets and Mounts

There are numerous options for mounting your license plate and Lowbrow Customs has an assortment of motorcycle license plate mounts and motorcycle license plates brackets for sale to help you get the job done right.

We carry a variety of easy-to-install axle mounted, shock mounted, and primary mounted (for Harley Sportsters) license plate brackets in both horizontal and vertical mount. We also carry lay down license plate mounts that are bolt-on for Harley Davidson® Big Twins from 1955 to current in both black and chrome. 

The axle mounts

The axle mounts are literally that. The brackets are made to mount to one side of the axle and the license plate is displayed sideways. This is often referred to as a vertical mount. This is a great option if you want to keep the rear fender portion of your bike unobstructed, or if you simply do not have the room to mount a plate on your rear fender. 

Turn signal mount

Another universal motorcycle license plate mount is the turn signal mount. This little bracket allows you to mount your plate horizontally and also provides a place for your turn signals to mount. The long slats in the bracket make it easy to mount this bracket in a variety of locations. 

The shock mount motorcycle license plate

Another option is the shock mount motorcycle license plate bracket from Gasbox™.  This custom motorcycle license plate bracket bolts to your lower 1/2" diameter shock bolt allowing an easy relocation of your license plate.

Traditional fender mount

Finally, the most common license plate mount holder for motorcycles is the traditional fender mount. These motorcycle license plate bracket kits often come in a flat or slightly curved form and allow you to mount the license plate to the rear fender. 3 bolts hold the bracket to the fender and then the plate mounts to the bracket itself. This is commonly the original mounting position, so relocation of the wiring is not necessary in most cases.
