Motorcycle Fork Components FAQ
When should I replace my motorcycle's fork seals?
You should replace them immediately if you see any signs of leaking oil on the fork tubes or lowers. It's also best practice to replace them anytime you have the front end disassembled, as old rubber can become brittle and fail.
What are the signs of worn-out fork springs?
The most common signs are a "spongy" feeling in the front end, excessive nose-diving when you apply the front brake, or the suspension bottoming out easily over bumps.
Can I ride with a leaking fork seal?
While you can for a short time, it's not recommended. Leaking fork oil can get on your brakes, reducing stopping power. It also causes poor handling and can lead to permanent damage to the internal fork components if the oil level gets too low.
