This is also why brands like Harley Davidson produce bikes that use a variety of fasteners. Torx, hex, allen head fasteners, and those strange 12-point brake caliper bolts can all be found on a single Harley. 

For god’s sake you need to strap a toolbox on the back of the bike just in case you need to perform a roadside repair. The variety of fasteners and the cheap coatings that come on them is a sure sign of production cost savings from the OEM. Chrome is not cheap and when you add up all the millions of bolts used to produce thousands of motorcycles, you can see how the savings begin to add up.
