HOW TO USE NECK CUP & BEARING RACE INSTALLER TOOL IN 2 EASY STEPS
WHAT COMES IN THE KIT
- qty 1 - 1' long all thread rod - 7/8" diameter
- qty 2 - Large Threaded Nuts
- qty 2 - Large Bearing Race Installation Spacers
- qty 4 - Smaller Spacers (these help raise the nut out of cups)
Everything that comes in the kit.
STEP 1: INSTALLING THE NECK CUPS
With the nut threaded onto the all thread rod place two of the small spacers on the longer end of the all thread rod. Now slide your cup face down towards the spacers and feed the all thread rod into your neck so that the cup's smaller taper end is starting into the bottom of your neck.
Drop your second cup face up onto the all thread and on the top of the neck. Place the remaining two smaller spacers into the top of the cup and then thread the second nut onto the top of the all thread and secure everything in place.
Start with placing two small spacers on top of the nut threaded on the bottom.
Place the cup with the larger opening down towards the two spacers and nut and feed the all thread rod into the neck aligning your cup to the neck.
Next place your second cup on the top of the neck, place the remaining two spacers into the top cup and thread on the second nut.
You can use two large crescent wrenches or deep sockets and tighten the two nuts so that they sandwich the cups and press them into the neck. Continue to tighten till the neck cups fully seat into the neck.
You will feel a positive stopping point when tightening. If you don't have a two large crescent wrenches and need a tool big enough to handle the job, we make a 1-5/16" & 1-1/2" two sided wrench normally for Fork Caps on Triumphs but will work for this as well.
Now you will tighten each nut together to press the neck cups into the neck.
Continue to tighten till you feel the neck cups seat into the neck. You will feel a positive stop.
Once cups are firmly installed, remove the tool, spacers etc. from the neck
Onto the bearing races.
STEP 2: INSTALLING BEARING RACES INTO THE NECK CUPS
Not all neck cups come with the bearing races installed into them (you can find several brands and prices of Harley Neck Bearings & Races here). The kit comes with two larger spacers to allow you to install both races at the same time, but you may find it easier to do one at a time. It is crucial that you line up the races with the neck cups evenly. Doing one at a time and taking your time, will ensure a proper installation.
The two larger spacers will also be beneficial when pressing a bearing race into a stock Sportster frame neck which tends to be deeper than most neck cups. Double stack the two larger spacers to install a bearing race into stock Sportster necks.
With the all thread rod on the bottom having two small spacers and a nut fed into the neck, place your bearing race onto the top cup. Place one of the large Spacers onto the race and thread on the second large nut.
Give a good look all the way around the race to make sure it is seated evenly with the cup and also the spacer is aligned properly around the race.
Installing one bearing race at a time, pick whichever side you want. Have a nut with two small spacers on the side you are not installing the race in, and feed the all thread rod into the neck.
Next, place your bearing race onto the neck cup you are wanting to press in and line it up evenly. Place the larger spacer on top of the bearing race and secure it evenly with the large nut threaded on top of the spacer.
Once you have determined its even use your two crescent wrenches and tighten them to press in the race into the cup. This should go pretty easy, if it feels really hard, you are probably not lined up properly and you should stop and reevaluate your alignment.
You will feel a positive stop when the race is fully seated. Remove the tool and repeat steps on the opposite side to do the second bearing race installation.
Tighten the two nuts pressing the bearing race into the cup.
Again you will feel a positive stop on the race when it is fully seated into the cup.
Do the same steps for the bottom cup and bearing race.
Make sure again everything is aligned properly before tightening the two nuts.
Tighten down till the race seats into the cup. Again you will feel a positive stop when it fully seats.
That's it, pretty simple! Now you are one step closer into making that project a roller, or putting a new front end on that bike of yours. HELL YEAH my guy!
